Teen Top 10

  1. Decrease focus on symptoms…aka no pain behaviors!
  2. School all day, every day.
  3. Eating 3 meals, 2 snacks each day.
  4. 30 minutes of relaxation daily.
  5. Physical activity for 60 minutes a day: at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity/sport and
    30 minutes of strength training and/or recreational activity
  6. Sleep schedule to include 8.5-9 hours of sleep.
  7. Continue to follow-up care with a counselor weekly, focusing that conversation on functioning.
  8. Continue extracurricular activities.
  9. Utilize the Difficult Day brochure/box.
  10. Complete a new 2-week schedule and follow (esp. during summer, holiday & school breaks)

Parent Top 10

  1. Focus conversations on functioning, not symptoms.
  2. Warm, neutral response to pain behaviors, including continued age-appropriate expectations.
  3. Show confidence in your child’s ability to use PRC skills successfully.
  4. Implement consequences per the home-going plan.
  5. Attend counseling appointments as needed with your child to problem-solve with a counselor.
  6. Practice your own self-care plan, especially on difficult days.
  7. Continue own commitments/goals such as work/school/volunteer/leisure.
  8. Maintain equal time with siblings.
  9. If there are medical appointments, have specific questions/ goals for the appointment.
  10. Continue to advocate for non-opioid interventions for your child’s treatment of chronic symptoms.
